Teacher ESSI
June 2 - 4, 2010
Purpose:
The Teacher ESSI offers elementary, middle, and high school teachers an opportunity to learn about current issues related to engineering and computer science, as well as physics, chemistry, biology and math. Various sessions and labs are facilitated by KSU faculty to illustrate how engineering is essential to our health, happiness, and safety. The program is also designed to aid teachers in helping students determine their interests both in college and beyond. In addition, teachers receive information and materials for use in preparing instuctional plans and have opportunites for experiencing campus life and learning about student classroom issues.
Registration Fees:
The college of Engineering will pay for ESSI Registration, some meals, materials, and two nights of KSU residence hall fees for the first ten registrants.
After the first ten registrants, fees are approximately "TBD" per registrant.
Activities:
Reverse (Toy Team) Engineering-
An examination of problem solving methods, the design process, team work, communication, and engineering professions.
Water Quality Management-
Includes projects, discussions, a tour of the Manhattan water waste & waste-water plants.
Biological Research Institute-
Tour this nationally renowned research facility to learn about the engineering that went into its design/construction and new biotech discoveries.
Wind Tunnel Testing-
An intro to fluid flow and aerodynamics.
Nuclear Reactor Tour
