|Car Rental at MCI (Kansas City International)
Phone banks for car rental agency shuttle buses are available throughout the airport. It is not necessary to phone the rental agency if you already have a car reserved. Shuttle buses circulate continuously past the terminal and to the rental lot. Meet the bus in the middle traffic island immediately outside of each terminal gate. Look for glass enclosed passenger pick-up shelters.
The car rental lot is located adjacent to International Way street.at theKansas City airport. Upon exiting the car rental lot, drive east on International Way about one mile to I-29. Exit onto northbound I-29 .
Airport to Kansas Turnpike
Upon exiting the airport, drive north on I-29 about 3 miles to the I-435 South (also marked I-435 West). It is a right hand exit from I-29 and is well marked. If you encounter the Platte City exit, you have gone too far north.
Continue west and south on I-435 about 25 miles to I-70 west. The right hand exit is well marked and signs will direct you "To Topeka." You enter the Kansas Turnpike/I-70 at mile marker 224.
Kansas Turnpike to Topeka
Interstate 70 and the Kansas Turnpike are the same highway between Kansas City and Topeka. Upon entering the turnpike on the west side of Kansas City, continue 41 miles west on the Turnpike past Lawrence to Topeka. The turnpike and I-70 separate at the east Topeka exit (mile marker 183). Exit the Turnpike at this point and continue on I-70 through Topeka.
Topeka to Manhattan
After leaving Topeka, continue west on I-70 for 41 miles to exit 313 (a few yards west of mile marker314). Exit 313 intersects with Kansas Highway 177 to Manhattan. Turn right (north) onto highway 177 and drive approximately 8 miles to the entrance of Manhattan.
Manhattan Entrance to KSU (& Holiday Inn)
As you approach Manhattan, the highway curves to the left (west). Immediately upon crossing the Kansas River (but still on the bridge) exit to the right to Ft. Riley Blvd. The exit from the bridge will terminate at a traffic signal at the intersection with Ft. Riley Blvd. TURN RIGHT (west) on Ft. Riley Blvd. which is a four lane bypass around the south side of Manhattan. (Ignore left turn sign to KSU.) Proceed west for 1.5 miles to 17th street (major intersection with traffic signal). Turn right on 17th street and drive north 0.7 miles through residential neighborhoods to the intersection of 17th street and Anderson Avenue and the Holiday Inn. The KSU campus is immediately north across the street from the Holiday Inn. A university information kiosk on 17th street is directly north of the Holiday Inn approximately 1/2 block. You can obtain campus information and parking permits at the kiosk.
