Student Accomplishment

  • For the second year in a row, the Beta Kappa chapter of Eta Kappa Nu, an electrical and computer engineering honor society, has received the Outstanding Chapter Award for activities and services. Faculty adviser is David Soldan, ECE professor.

  • Ryan Lund and Brian Schrotenboer, CNS, were awarded, respectively, the Firebaugh Construction Inc. Scholarship and the James L. "Skip" Hutton, Jr. Scholarship by the Builders Association of Kansas and Missouri.

  • Wilson Smith, CE, was one of two K-State graduate students to receive a $500 scholarship for his research efforts presented at the ninth annual Capitol Graduate Research Summit in Topeka.

  • Jonathan Vanier, CE, was selected as a finalist for an ACI Student Fellowship and will present his graduate research at the annual convention of the American Concrete Institute in Dallas in March.

Faculty Recognition

  • The Ad Astra Kansas Initiative named 21 active K-State faculty members among the top 150 researchers ever to work in Kansas throughout its 150 years of statehood. Six were from the College of Engineering:

    • Sigifredo Castro Diaz, AMI bioprocessing engineer

    • David Gustafson, CIS professor

    • Bill Kuhn, ECE professor

    • Ruth Douglas Miller, ECE assoc. professor

    • Mary Rezac, CHE professor

    • Youqi Wang, ME professor

Programs, centers, and institutes

  • Mustaque Hossain, assoc. director of the Mid-America Transportation Center, and Bob Peterman and Sunanda Dissanayake, CE faculty, will make presentations at a Webinar organized by the Mid-America Transportation Center, a U.S. Department of Transportation Region VII University Transportation Center representing Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri.
