Proceedings of the Conference on Application of Waste Remediation Technologies to Agricultural Contamination of Water Resources

The 2002 Conference on the Application of Waste Remediation Technologies to Agricultural Contamination of Water Resources was organized by the Great Plains/Rocky Mountain Hazardous Substance Research Center (HSRC) headquartered at Kansas State University. The conference was held July 30-August 1, 2002, in Kansas City, MO at the Marriott-Country Club Plaza. The conference program consisted of 28 oral and 16 poster presentations, a forum to address challenges, a workshop, and luncheon addresses.

The goal of the conference was to transfer knowledge about cleanup technologies used at Superfund sites to state, provincial, and international organizations that deal with impacts to water resources from agricultural activities. Many investigation and remediation methods used at Superfund sites are applicable to agricultural contamination situations. This conference explored how these technologies can enhance both the environmental and economic vitality of agriculture areas. Participants included technical experts, managers, and contractors from private, federal, state, and local agencies. Oral presentations and posters in the program showcased programs, tools, and methods to deal with four major challenges: 1) fumigants and volatile organic chemicals, 2) nitrogen, 3) pesticides and herbicides, and 4) livestock wastes.
