Tracer tests were conducted in support of a field-scale pilot study to evaluate the effectiveness of air sparging and in-well aeration for bioremediation of a gasoline contaminated site. Multiple tracers, including sulfur hexafluoride, helium, bromide, and fluorescein, were used to allow for multiple testing without background interference.
Bromide and fluorescein were monitored in the saturated zone; sulfur hexafluoride was monitored in both the saturated and unsaturated zones; and helium was monitored in the unsaturated zone. Tracer data from the field study were used to determine flow patterns, flow rates, and volumes of influence for the treatments.
