PROGRAM

Most human activities occur at the interface of the lithosphere, the hydrosphere and the atmosphere -  the "geoenvironment" - and exert great influence on the biosphere. The sustainability of our biosphere, therefore, requires an improved understanding of the near-surface geoenvironment. Kansas State University's Geoenvironmental Certificate Program is designed to bring such understanding through a combination of conventional and innovative approaches to research and education on this topic. The goals of the certificate program are to:

  • prepare graduates for careers in geoenvironmental sciences and engineering;
  • promote interdisciplinary educational experiences in geoenvironmental sciences and engineering and;
  • enhance interactions among faculty and students in the allied science and engineering disciplines related to geoenvironmental sciences and engineering.

The Geoenvironmental Certificate program requires 12 credit hours of coursework, including 9 hours from three required courses and 3 hours of elective chosen from a list of approved courses. The Geoenvironmental Certificate Program is administered and coordinated by the Department of Civil Engineering.

     This program was made possible by support from the National Science Foundation (CRCD Program).
