Shadow Day at K-State designed to spur young women's interest in science and engineering

MANHATTAN— Girls in the 10th-12th grades from across the state will pair up with Kansas State University female science, technology, engineering or mathematics students for Shadow Day, Tuesday, Oct. 13.

High school participants, teamed with K-State student mentors, will attend class, tour campus, eat lunch at the K-State Student Union, participate in the workshop "Choosing a College Major that Is Right for YOU" and experience life as a college student for the day.

MANHATTAN— Two Kansas entrepreneurs have developed a special new smoker and grill, and Kansas State University's Advanced Manufacturing Institute helped make it possible.

The Xtreme Smoker & Grill, created by Delmar and Steve Toburen, St. George, is now on the market -- just in time for the summer barbecue season.

MANHATTAN— The Advanced Manufacturing Institute at Kansas State University has partnered with Dell Perot Systems Engineering Services Group, or eServ, to provide K-State students internships.

The students will be mentored by professionals at the Advanced Manufacturing Institute and Dell, and they will gain real-world design and engineering work experience.

February career fairs at K-State to attract nearly 200 employers

MANHATTAN— Nearly 200 employers will be seeking out Kansas State University students at the Engineering Career Fair, Tuesday, Feb. 10, and the Business and Hospitality Career Fair, Wednesday, Feb. 18. Both fairs will be on the second floor of the K-State Student Union.

K-State's career and employment services will host the fairs, giving students the opportunity to meet with employers offering full-time, internship and cooperative work/study positions. Many of the companies will spend an extra day on campus conducting interviews.

MANHATTAN— Successfully attaining scholarships is the focus of a Kansas State University EXCITE! -- EXploring sCIence, Technology and Engineering -- workshop for ninth- to 12th-grade girls, Friday, Nov. 12, at K-State.

"Show Me the Scholarships!" will feature topics that include application information, resume building, interview techniques and understanding financial aid. Each 30-minute interactive session will be led by K-State staff and students who have been successful in receiving scholarships.

MANHATTAN— Energy and environmental professionals will be available for dialogue and discussion on the topics of renewable energy, food and sustainability at two public forums on the Kansas State University campus.

Both forums will start at 7 p.m. and will be Tuesday, Jan. 8, and Wednesday, Jan. 9, in 1052 Rathbone Hall.
