The MNE nuclear reactor had a record-setting 1008 visitors in the month of April. These numbers included students from K-State classes, visiting classes from regional colleges and universities, Boy Scouts, and 558 visitors during Open House. Jeff Geuther is manager of the reactor.
Four engineering students were recognized for high placements in the 15th annual Kansas State University S. Thomas Parker Mathematics Competition. Yang Chen, CS, and Yichao Zhang, CHE, tied for 1st place; and Melissa Coats, CMPEN, and Thomas Marietta, ME, tied for 3rd place.
The SAE Aero Design Team placed 3rd overall in the 2013 SAE Aero West Regular Class event in Van Nuys, Calif., with their airplane The Spirit of Manhattan. The competition involved 37 international teams and the K-State team placed 2nd out of all U.S. teams. Team adviser is Terry Beck, MNE
Gurpreet Singh, MNE, was recently interviewed for a piece in the nanotechnology journal Azonano, where he spoke about the ongoing research at the K-State College of Engineering.
John Elson, MNE grad student, will present a paper, “Evaluation of Personal Cooling Systems for Military Use,” at the International Conference on Environmental Ergonomics in Queenstown, New Zealand, Feb. 11-15. Co-authors are Steve Eckels, MNE professor, and Elizabeth McCullough, textiles and marketing emeritus professor.
