Laverne Bitsie-Baldwin Named 2010 Outstanding Director

Laverne Bitsie-Baldwin, director of the K-State Multicultural Engineering Program (MEP), has received the NAMEPA 2010 Outstanding Director Award. She serves as chair of NAMEPA Region D, and Region D received the NAMEPA 2010 Outstanding Region Award as well.

MEP — record college enrollment of incoming multicultural freshmen

LaVerne Bitsie-Baldwin, MEP director, is reporting a record enrollment of incoming multicultural freshmen in the College of Engineering, with 81 first-year students self-identified as Black, Hispanic, or Native American, representing approximately 13% of the engineering freshman class for fall 2010. These numbers represent a 26% increase in multicultural students from fall 2009 and a 145% increase from fall 2008.
