Bobb Stokes, CE, has been appointed the interim department head of civil engineering.

Feraidon Ataie, CE grad student, was named a KansasBio winner for his research presentation at the 10th annual Capitol Graduate Research Summit in Topeka.

Hayder Rasheed, CE, co-authored the paper “Analytical Solution of Interface Shear Stresses in Externally Bonded FRP-Strengthened Concrete Beams,” published in the ASCE Journal of Engineering Mechanics.

Rasheed was also invited by The University of Queensland, Australia, to examine a Ph.D. degree thesis for a student from the School of Civil Engineering there.

Natalie Mladenov, CE, and graduate student Kaley Oldani visited collaborators at the University of Colorado in Dec. and conducted field and lab studies on the influence of atmospheric deposition on water quality in alpine catchments.

Kyle Riding, CE, has been selected by the American Concrete Institute as the recipient of its 2012 Young Member Award for Professional Development.

Steve Starrett, CE, has been appointed treasurer of the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Environmental and Water Resources Institute, the largest technical institute of the organization.

Graduate students Feraidon Ataie, CE, advisor Kyle Riding, and Vahid Rahmani, BAE, advisor Stacy Hutchinson, were among the winners in the 2012 Research of the State competition. They will go on to represent K-State at the Capitol Graduate Research Summit in February.
