The ASCE Student Chapter steel bridge team took 1st place overall at the ASCE Mid-Continent Student Steel Bridge Conference at Southern Illinois University in April, qualifying for the national competition in Seattle, Wash., in May. Faculty adviser is Hayder Rasheed, CE.
Asad Esmaeily, CE, served as guest editor of the ASCE Journal of Engineering Mechanics special issue in March on “Experimental Methods in Damage Detection and Wind Engineering.” He is also the recipient of the 2013 James L. Hollis Memorial Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in the College of Engineering.
MANHATTAN -- A Kansas State University graduate student sees the unpaved road ahead, and it's filled with biomaterial.
Wilson Smith, master's student in civil engineering, Independence, Mo., is working with lignin, a plant-based sustainable material that can be added to improve the quality of unpaved roads throughout Kansas.
More than 70 percent of the 98,000 miles of roads in Kansas are unpaved, Smith said.
Sunanda Dissanayake, CE assoc. professor, presented four papers, all co-authored by CE graduate students, at the American Society of Civil Engineer's Transportation and Development Institute Congress, in March in Chicago, Ill.
