Former Winfield, Wichita resident commits $112,000 to K-State
Robert McKay, Edmonds, Wash., has made a commitment of $112,000 to Kansas State University to establish the Robert McKay Engineering Excellence Fund and benefit the Justin Hall building project in the College of Human Ecology.
The commitment was made through the proceeds of a charitable remainder unitrust, with about $56,000 benefiting each fund.
McKay is a 1940 K-State graduate with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. While at K-State he was a member of Alpha Phi Omega national service fraternity. He is a retired employee of the Boeing Company. McKay is a native of Winfield, Kan, where he lived from 1918-1936 and he is a former resident of Wichita, residing there from 1945-1962.
McKay is a member of Presidents Club, a KSU Foundation philanthropic leadership organization for friends and alumni of K-State, and the Land Grant Legacy Society, an organization for those who have included K-State in their estate plans.
“I appreciate that K-State had programs that enabled me to receive an education,” McKay said. “I wish to give something back to allow the college to assist worthy students.”
“Robert’s generosity to engineering is exemplary of our fine graduates,” said John R. English, dean of the College of Engineering and the LeRoy C. and Aileen H. Paslay Chair in Engineering. “This gift will help us meet the most pressing needs of the college.”
