Kansas City metro area
In 1996, the cities of Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas were awarded a National Brownfields Pilot grant by the EPA. KCBI administered this grant and successfully applied for additional EPA funding, became a Brownfields Showcase Community, and has leveraged millions of dollars to redevelop brownfields in the Kansas City metro area.
Kansas City Brownfields Initiative (KSBI)
February 1998
TAB has assisted KCBI by providing technical information about assessment and remediation technologies, assisting with organizing workshops for community members, preparing written materials for community members, participating on a steering committee, and reviewing documents, as requested. At the request of KCBI, TAB has provided technical and educational assistance to the Oak Grove Neighborhood Association because this group was identified by KCBI as needing significant support and guidance as the community considered a proposal to redevelop a brownfields site in their neighborhood. The need for TAB services to KCBI continues as redevelopment of brownfields in various neighborhoods progresses and new community members become interested and involved in the brownfields redevelopment process.
